Ski & Boot Accessories at Sport am Jet: FAQ
Small parts, big difference – this is how you get more fit and comfort out of your skis and ski boots.
Which ski & boot accessories really make a difference on the slopes?
Which ski & boot accessories really make a difference on the slopes?
Most of the potential lies in the ski boot. Many people ski below their level simply because their foot slips or feels pinched. That’s exactly where our ski boot accessories come in:
Insoles: better support, more direct power transfer, warmer feet
Grip Pads & GripWalk Soles: more secure footing when walking, a snug fit in the binding
Shin Guards & Heel Lifts: relieve pressure and fill gaps where the boot doesn’t fit perfectly
Ski Boot Dryers & Hand Warmers: keep you warm and dry for the next day on the slopes
When your setup fits, your skiing improves.
Why are insoles for ski boots worth it?
Why are insoles for ski boots worth it?
The insole in a ski boot is usually just a flat piece of foam. A good ski boot insole supports your arch, keeps your heel stable and gets you onto your edge with direct, efficient movement. That means: more control, fewer cramps, warmer feet.
In our Ski & Boot Accessories section, you'll find the Formthotics Ski Dual and Ski Tour Single, as well as the Bootdoc Power Black insoles and much more. Thermoformable models adapt to your foot after warming up – ideally together with your ski boot during bootfitting in Flachau.
Grip Pads and GripWalk soles: What’s the deal with them, and are they compatible with your binding?
Grip Pads and GripWalk soles: What’s the deal with them, and are they compatible with your binding?
Grip Pads are replaceable sole plates at the heel and toe of your ski boot. When they are worn out, the boot no longer fits properly in the binding – and that is a safety issue. With new pads, your boot is secure again.
Important: Ski boot soles come in different standards, such as the Alpine standard (ISO 5355) and GripWalk – the sole must match the binding. From Atomic, we carry RTX GripWalk Pads, Cantable Grip Pads, and AMT Alpine Standard Grip Pads. Which pad is right for your boot is stated in the product description. Not sure? Send us the model and size of your ski boot.
What helps relieve pressure on the shin inside a ski boot?
What helps relieve pressure on the shin inside a ski boot?
The Bootdoc Gel Pad shoe accessory cushions and relieves pressure on the shin bone, while the Atomic Performance Leg Pad (Medium or Large) fills the space between the boot liner and your leg to prevent chafing.
- Thinner ski socks can also often help, as thick socks bunch up inside the boot. If the pressure persists, it’s worth consulting the experts: During a boot fitting, we identify the root cause instead of simply adding more padding.
If the pads don’t help, a custom-fit Zipfit boot liner is the solution. Its tongue is filled with cork that molds precisely to your shin when warmed, distributing pressure evenly and making the boot feel like it was made just for you. Click here to discover our Zipfit boot liners.
What do you need a heel lift for in a ski boot?
What do you need a heel lift for in a ski boot?
Our No. 1 bootfitting shoe accessory: A Heel Raise slightly elevates your heel. This changes the foot strike, relieves tension on a shortened Achilles tendon, and provides better support when there is plenty of room over the instep. The Formthotics Heel Raise is available in 4 mm and 6 mm – it is best to start with the lower version.
Is a ski boot dryer worth it?
Is a ski boot dryer worth it?
Yes. After a day of skiing, the inside of your boots is damp from sweat and snow. If left that way, you’ll step into cold boots in the morning, and both your gear and hygiene will suffer. The Hotronic Tech Dry 230 V gently dries your ski boots overnight—much gentler than a heater, which can deform the boot liner. It also works with snowboard and hiking boots.
How do you keep your hands warm when skiing?
How do you keep your hands warm when skiing?
Good ski gloves are the foundation. If your fingers get cold fast, go for mittens like the Pop Wear ski mittens – your fingers keep each other warm. Or pick the Hestra Army Leather Heli Ski gloves: tough leather, thick lining, a classic for cold days on the mountain. With either one, your hands stay warm even when it’s well below freezing.
On really icy days or when the wind hits you on the lift, the hand warmers from The Heat Company take it up a notch – up to 12 hours of warmth. Just unwrap them and slip them into your gloves.
