What makes Salomon ski boots stand out?
What makes Salomon ski boots stand out?
Salomon ski boots come from the French brand based in Annecy. Their strength lies in shells that can be completely shaped to your foot, and a wide range from piste boots to touring hybrids.
- Customizable shell: With Custom Shell HD, the shell is shaped around your foot, not just the liner.
- All-mountain strength: Many models are built for piste and off-piste, some with a walk mode.
- Range: There are models ranging from comfortable to sporty and from piste boots to touring boots.
- Women & Men: Most lines are available as a women's version with an adjusted cuff and flex.
You can find an overview of all brands in our range on our brand page.
What is Salomon Custom Shell HD?
What is Salomon Custom Shell HD?
Custom Shell HD is Salomon's process for heat-molding the entire shell to your foot. The shell is heated, you step into it, and it cools down to fit the shape of your foot.
- Full shell: Not just the insole, but the plastic shell itself conforms to the ball of the foot, ankles, and instep.
- Quick fit: Instead of making many individual adjustments for pressure points, the shoe takes shape in a single step.
- More comfort, same support: The shoe exerts less pressure while still providing a secure fit.
- Repeatable: If something still doesn't fit, the shell can be adjusted again.
This makes a noticeable difference, especially for feet that fall between two last widths.
Which Salomon ski boot line is right for my foot?
Which Salomon ski boot line is right for my foot?
Salomon categorizes its ski boots by use and fit. Many models are available in several last widths. Therefore, always check the mm value in the product description.
- S/Max: Sporty and narrow-fitting. Salomon ski boots for narrow feet and precise carving on the slopes.
- S/Pro Alpha: A precise piste boot with direct handling for sporty skiers.
- S/Pro Supra: A versatile all-rounder. Some models feature a BOA dial closure system instead of traditional buckles.
- Wider versions: For Salomon ski boots for wide feet, there are models with more volume in the forefoot.
- Shift Pro: The hybrid for piste and ski touring; find out more in the next question.
Who is the Salomon Shift Pro made for?
Who is the Salomon Shift Pro made for?
The Salomon Shift Pro is a hybrid ski boot for anyone who wants to use the same boot for both on-piste skiing and ski touring.
- Walk mode: Unlock the cuff to walk uphill with significantly greater freedom of movement.
- Tech inserts: Many models feature inserts for pin bindings, but are also compatible with alpine and GripWalk bindings.
- Downhill: When locked, it performs like a sporty alpine boot, providing support and power transfer.
- For whom: For freeriders, ski tourers, and anyone who enjoys exploring off-piste.
We can determine which binding is right for your Shift Pro when you try it on.
What size do I need for Salomon ski boots?
What size do I need for Salomon ski boots?
The Salomon ski boot size chart is based on Mondopoint, which means the length of your foot in centimeters. EU and US sizes are for guidance only.
- Measuring: Measure both feet while standing. The longer foot determines the size.
- Shell sizes: Two half sizes usually share the same shell; the difference lies in the liner.
- Shell test: Without the liner, there should be enough space for about 1–2 fingers behind the heel.
- Between two sizes: Choose the smaller shell and have it fitted using Custom Shell HD instead of buying a size up.
Which flex is right for Salomon ski boots?
Which flex is right for Salomon ski boots?
Salomon includes the flex in the model name. The higher the number, the stiffer the shoe. Women's models are usually rated slightly lower.
- Men's 80–100 / Women's 70–85: For beginners and recreational riders.
- Men's 100–120 / Women's 85–105: For advanced riders who carve confidently and enjoy all-mountain riding.
- Men's 120–130 / Women's 105 and up: For athletic riders who enjoy speed, even off-road.
- 130 and up: For experts and racers.
In hybrid models like the Shift Pro, the flex naturally feels quite different in walk mode compared to when it's locked.
Do Salomon ski boots have a GripWalk sole?
Do Salomon ski boots have a GripWalk sole?
Many Salomon ski boots have a GripWalk sole, while some hybrid models also feature inserts for pin bindings. Race models use a smooth alpine sole.
- Peace of mind: The rockered tread gives you grip on the way to the lift or the hut.
- Binding: GripWalk requires a compatible or MNC binding, while pin inserts require a touring binding.
- Alpine standard: The smooth sole fits into any alpine binding.
- Setup: If you buy your skis from us, we will set up the binding for your Salomon ski boot free of charge in Flachau.

How much do Salomon ski boots cost at Sport am Jet?
How much do Salomon ski boots cost at Sport am Jet?
Our Salomon ski boots cost between €329.99 and €799.99. The price depends on the range, flex, and features:
- Entry-level: Comfortable flex and a comfortable liner, often with a GripWalk sole.
- Mid-range: Custom Shell HD and a sporty flex for on-piste and all-mountain skiing.
- High-end: Stiff flex, precise lasts, or hybrid technology for on-piste and touring.
Choose the boot based on how you ski. If you never go touring, you don't need a hybrid, and if you enjoy touring, you won't be happy with a pure on-piste boot.
