Buy Elan skis and know what’s inside: Here we explain Dual Ti, Ace Arrow, FusionX and Amphibio, and show you who the Ace SLX was built for.
Did Elan invent the carving ski?
Did Elan invent the carving ski?
Yes, Elan from Slovenia is considered the inventor of the carving ski.
- Early 90s: With the SCX, a ski with a strongly waisted shape came onto the market.
- The effect: Even recreational skiers could suddenly carve on edge instead of skidding.
- Today: The experience with waist and radius is in every Elan.
What’s inside the Elan Ace SLX FusionX?
What’s inside the Elan Ace SLX FusionX?
The Ace SLX is a slalom carver from Elan's race line, made for good skiers on hard-packed snow.
- Waist: 121-68-104 mm
- Radius: 12.8 m at 165 cm
- Core: R² Frame Woodcore (wooden core)
- Construction: Dual Ti, meaning two layers of Titanal
- Side wall: RST Sidewall for direct power transfer
- Profile: Camber without rocker, so the edge engages along its entire length
What is Ace Arrow Technology?
What is Ace Arrow Technology?
On the Ace Arrow, the Titanal layers are precisely cut into an arrow shape.
- Turn initiation: The ski gets onto edge lightning fast.
- Rebound: It returns a lot of energy at the turn apex.
- On the slopes: You thread the line precisely and catapult yourself straight into the next slalom turn.
Ace SLX or Ace SL: What’s the difference?
Ace SLX or Ace SL: What’s the difference?
Both are slalom carvers with Ace Arrow Technology.
- Ace SLX: two layers of Titanal, stiffer, designed to be ridden with pressure and good technique. For full attack.
- Ace SL: one layer of Titanal, slightly more forgiving, allows for more mistakes when carving casually. For all-day riding.
What do FusionX and EMX 12.0 GW mean?
What do FusionX and EMX 12.0 GW mean?
- FusionX: Elans system binding. The ski and binding are designed to work together, allowing the ski to flex more harmoniously and saving weight.
- EMX 12.0 GW: Z-range of 3.5 to 12, compatible with alpine and GripWalk soles.
- Power Rebound System: Plate under the binding that enhances power transfer and rebound.
What is Amphibio at Elan?
What is Amphibio at Elan?
At Amphibio, there is a left and a right ski.
- Inside edge: Camber for grip
- Outside edge: Rocker for easy turn initiation
- Amphibio Truline: additional material strategically placed over the edges for more edge grip
- Where to find it: mainly in all-mountain models like the Wingman
The Ace SLX, on the other hand, is a pure race carver and is classically symmetrical with a camber build.
What length and radius are suitable for the Ace SLX?
What length and radius are suitable for the Ace SLX?
- Lengths: 155 to 170 cm
- Radius: increases with length, from approximately 11 to 13.5 m
- Rule of thumb: A slalom carver is ridden shorter than an all-mountain ski, down to about chin height.
- Shorter: even tighter and more maneuverable
- Longer: smoother tracking when you also ski medium-radius turns
Is a used Elan Ace SLX worth it?
Is a used Elan Ace SLX worth it?
Yes, if you ski sportily and want to save money.
- Flex: The wood core and Dual Ti retain their flex for a long time, and the ski still feels very direct even when used.
- What to look for: Edges and base
- Price: You can see the savings compared to the new price right on the ski.
- Service: We offer free ski checks and Z-value adjustments in Flachau.
